Komputers4Kids Can't Get Into Gear

Literally, Komputers4Kids can't get into gear.

On a recent road trip to the Dallas/Fort Worth Area to pick up a load of newly purchased monitors, Ryan and his girlfriend got to spend some quality time beside the road waiting for Ken and a tow dolly to rescue them. It turns out that the transmission for the 3/4 ton Chevy K4K van decided to commit suicide by gear-splatter.

The mechanic just laughed when asked about rebuilding it.

"It looks like a bomb went of inside that casing. You'd be better off just bolting a new one in."

Well, a "new one" is out of the question...it would cost as much as was paid for the van itself, but a perfectly good rebuilt has been located for about a quarter of the cost.

It's still more than the guys have to spend so I thought I'd come to you and see if we couldn't get some help. I don't often meddle in Ken's business but you have to understand, his moody presence in this house is driving me nuts. He knows he has several installs to do in the coming weeks and without a vehicle, it isn't going to happen. That means he's going to be hanging around here all the time. Not that I mind, but a moody geek isn't my idea of ideal company.

Any help you could provide would be appreciated. Seriously, we have 4 installs to do in the next two weeks and one of them will take us 125 miles from home. That's a long way to hitchhike with a computer strapped to one's back.

The Link to the K4K donation point is here

Thanks ya'll. Thank you for being there when we need you. We hope that we are here to do the same.

Deb.

Ken's detractors out weigh him in resources by a huge margin. Maybe there was a bomb inside the transmission. (Que in creepy music)

Or maybe the saga of this transmission began in a Chinese foundry years ago.

Whatever the case, we'll get through this. And the next one...

You seem to not have the donation link in this new blog? There is one in this old blogpost though: http://blog.lobby4linux.com/index.php?/archives/453-Of-Tragedy-and-Transmissions.html

I wonder if your bank allows the use of the wire transfer system called SWIFT?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wire_transfer
http://www.swift.com/biconline/index.cfm?fuseaction=display_aboutbic

You'll get some money from me, if they do...

I don't do PayPal though. Sorry.

I am sure lots of people would chip in, but we'd really need a donation link.

Thank you for this. I will bring this up with some friends of mine to see if they are willing to chip in a bit. :-)
